Beyond Comparison

Beyond Comparison

I just wrote quite a long blog about my Bible Study lesson last night and somehow erased it before I posted!  I started to feel frustrated and then I stopped.  While I thought my post was pretty good, it wouldn't even begin to compare to God.  I do want to try to share a little of what I wrote, and keeping foremost in my mind that it is only by God's grace that I can do anything!

The Bible Study lesson posed the question: "To what (or whom) have you compared God?"  I thought that seemed pretty silly, God is God....but as we discussed it, I realized that without even knowing I've compared God to plenty of things.  Some of the things we discussed were a Santa Clause who only wants to give us good things or a grandfatherly figure or even just calling Him "a higher power."  Higher...yes He most certainly is, but just saying "higher power" doesn't even begin to describe God's vastness, you've got to be specific.  Maybe you've thought of God as this fierce being that sits in heaven ready to judge.  While God is judge (on of His many characteristics), we can't stop there.

The Scripture our lesson was based on is found in Isaiah 40.  It talks about the vastness of God.  He is ALL POWERFUL, ALL KNOWING, and ALL LOVING.  Just knowing this is awe inspiring enough, but to realize that this powerful, wise and loving God would care enough about me to send His son to become man and sacrifice His life so that I could have the hope of EVERLASTING life with Him!  If you place your faith in Jesus Christ, your hope is secure....what better security do I need.  In the hustle and bustle of life, it is important to remember where your security lies.  Not in your job, your spouse, your children or anything else you can think of.  Your security lies in the hand of the ALMIGHTY Father who loves and cares for you.  No matter what happens in your life you can always trust in the one who is the same yesterday, today and FOREVER.  He is always there and He never changes.  And to think that we are a mere speck in this vast universe and God loved us so much that He made a way for us to be with Him in ETERNITY!

I am realizing more and more each day what a gift that God's grace is.  Without it I would be lost in this world, without hope for the next.

Have you compared God to anything?

Are you INSPIRED by His awesome love and grace for you?

I've been tagged by faithcd.  Watch out maybe I've tagged you next!

Here are the rules:

(1) Link to the person that tagged you.
(2) Post the rules on your blog.
(3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
(4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
(5) Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

#1 - I eat all of the salt off of pretzels FIRST!

#2 - I say "DUDE" about a thousand times a day...don't know why, but I just can't stop! lol

#3 - My face can tell you what I'm thinking long before my mouth ever will!  I guess that's my heart on my sleeve.

#4 - I cross my feet and hold onto my pointer finger when I'm in a nervous/scary situation (i.e., the dentist or in labor).  Generally I close my eyes too.

#5 - I love sunflower seeds (salt is kinda my thing) and fountain pop.

#6 - I love to sleep in......even though it hasn't happened in awhile.

 I tag Godslilchik, m_roberson83 and I think that's it...I'd hate to steal queenbeesupreme's kids.....LOL.

AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS

I've posted this before....but ran across it again, and thought I'd share again.

AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS
Marcia Krugh Leaser

Fearing the battle was over
And I’d already lost the war,
I was tired of trying and failing.
I just couldn’t fight anymore.
So, dragging my battle-scarred body,
I crawled to the foot of the cross.
And I sobbed, ‘Oh please, Father forgive me.
But I tried…I tried...and still lost.’
Then the air grew silent around me.
I heard His voice just as clear as the dawn:
‘Oh, My child, though you are tired and weary,
You can’t stop, you have to go on.’
At the foot of the Cross, where I met Him,
At the foot of the Cross, where He died,
I felt love, as I knelt in His presence.
I felt hope, as I looked in His eyes.
Then He gathered me lovingly to Him,
As around us God’s light clearly shone.
And together we walked through my lifetime,
To heal every wound I had known.
I found bits of my dreams, long forgotten,
And pieces of my life on the floor.
But I watched as He tenderly blessed them,
And my life was worth living once more.
I knew then why I had been losing.
I knew why I had not grown.
At the foot of the Cross came the answer:
I’d been fighting the battle alone.
At the foot of the Cross, where I met Him,
At the foot of the Cross, where He died,
Then I knew I could face any challenge
Together—just my Lord and I.

ELECTRICITY

Electricity.....often taken for granted.....until this past week anyway.  From about  3 a.m. on December 11th to about 6:30 p.m. today (12/16) I lived without electricity.  Well, truth be told, we weren't completely primitive thanks to a good neighbor's motor home generator.....during these last several days I've come to appreciate the "little" blessings of the modern world and have never been so excited to do LAUNDRY in my life (hehe).

PRAISE THE LORD, WE HAVE FULL POWER!!!!
